Standard Beauty Product RevieW: Are These Viral Skincare Products Worth It?

I don’t know about you, but I love discovering new beauty brands. Standard Beauty has been creating buzz in South Africa, with many raving about their affordable, high-quality skincare – but I had yet to purchase any myself, even though their products sound fantastic and loved by many South Africans.

When Standard Beauty reached out to me to try some of their products, I was thrilled! After much deliberation, I decided on the Hydrating Jelly Mask and the Double Power Salicylic Acid Exfoliating Polish both designed to boost hydration and refine skin texture.

But let’s backtrack for a minute… If you haven’t heard of Standard Beauty, let me give you a little bit of background.

What is Standard Beauty

Started by Ann-Kathrin Joos. She had a belief that good quality skincare and beauty products should be as affordable as possible and that the formulas and ingredients be clean.

Standard Beauty is a 100% woman-owned and women-operated local business and they strive to uplift as many women as possible as the brand grows.

What makes Standard Beauty stand out?

  • Clean formulas – No parabens, artificial colors, silicones, or petroleum oils.
  • Cruelty-free – Both products and suppliers follow strict ethical standards.
  • Locally made – The majority of products are made in South Africa.
  • Targeted solutions – Their range includes products for pigmentation, hydration, and acne-prone skin.

Now that you’re a little bit more familiar with who Standard Beauty is, let’s dive into the two products I chose.

Standard Beauty Products Review

Standard Beauty Double Power Salicylic Acid Exfoliating Polish

First up let’s chat about the Standard Beauty Double Power Salicylic Acid Exfoliating Polish. I adore a great exfoliator and find that as soon as I don’t have a decent one in my skincare regime, my skin gets very upset with me and in these dryer months starts to look incredibly dull.

The major highlight of this exfoliator from Standard Beauty is that it is both a chemical and physical exfoliator.

Key Ingredients & Benefits:

  • BHA Salicylic Acid (2%) – an ingredient well known to help with congestion such as black and white heads.
  • 100% Biodegradable Jojoba Beads – Jojoba beads gently buff the skin leaving it looking healthy and luminous.

I’ve been using the product two to three a week for just under 3 weeks now and it’s been great!

My skin feels incredibly soft after using it but not at all irritated. While I usually prefer a chemical exfoliator, I do really enjoy the feeling of a physical exfoliator so I really get the best of both worlds with this product.

I tend to use it in the morning so that my skin is prepped for the Jelly Mask in the evening (you can’t use them at the same time).

Standard Beauty Hydrating Jelly mask

Next up is the Standard Beauty Hydrating Jelly Mask which really intrigued me! I know masking seems like a massive schlep to most but I’ve found a way to it work into my routine at home and my skin is definitely grateful!

The jelly texture of this mask is amazing, and I think it’s going to be brilliant in the hot summer months. It goes on like a dream with the silicone spatula (included in your purchase), and feels very cooling on the skin.

Once removed, I didn’t feel like there was any residue left and my skin felt wonderfully hydrated for a good few days afterward.

I love that there is a small percentage of vitamin C in the product, it just adds a great brightening aspect to give you that glow (which I’m definitely after in winter).
