Winter Skincare Edit

Now that the days are well and truly getting more chilly, it’s a good time to take a look at your skincare regime and make a few minor adjustments to ensure that your skin stays in tip top shape throughout winter.

Swap gel cleansers for more creamy ones. Or take it one step further and start using a cleansing balm, one of my favourites is the Lulu and Marula Balancing Cleansing Balm. These tend to be a lot thicker and a lot more nourishing for the skin. If you are totally opposed to the idea of a cleaning cream or balm, you can try out a gel cream cleanser like the Avène Cold Cream. Although it is for the body, I have found it to be a great cleanser for my dehydrated skin and I haven’t felt any sensitivity on the areas that are more prone to irritation.

Boost your moisturiser. Winter is the time to start using a richer moisturiser (but not too rich!), at least at night. I have been using the Kiehl’s Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream for a few weeks and my skin has really been thanking me! It is incredibly nourishing and is said to increase the skins barrier function over time. This will come in super handy for those that suffer with sensitive skin as it will help the skin protect itself against irritations. The trick is to warm it up between your fingers before massaging it in, if you don’t, it can feel slightly tacky.

Be on your (vitamin) A game. I’m always a little nervous of using a retinol serum during the summer months, only because I am petrified of sun damage, even though I use a sun block every day. But now that it’s winter, I have started using my retinol serums at night again, while still applying my sun block religiously during the day. Vitamin A serums are like a magic potion for the skin: they are incredibly resurfacing and have amazing anti-ageing effects. I have really been enjoying the Exuviance Super Retinol Concentrate every night. It contains 1% encapsulated, slow release retinol  and makes my skin feel incredibly smooth as well as visibly reduce my underlying congestion, especially around my chin.

Give your skin a drink of water. As much as your skin needs hydration during the summer months, it’s just as important during winter. Avène has a hydrating range called Hydrance Optimale and I have been loving the Hydrating Serum and the Hydrating Skin Tone Perfector. In fact, I mix the two together and then apply them and it blends out like a dream. The coverage is pretty amazing for a product that isn’t a foundation as well and I love that it keeps my skin looking and feeling plump and healthy all day long.

Which one of these tips will you be adding to your winter skin regime?
