Lipsticks I Love

Believe it or not, I was never big into lipstick until about a year ago, I just felt silly when I wore it for some reason. I’m not sure what spurred it on but one day I started wearing a very natural colour and since then my love for lippies has grown enormously and my collection even includes some bold colours that I never dreamt of ever bringing close to my lips – what a change! Today I thought I would share some of my favourites, some are older, some have only recently been added to my collection but I love them all.

Let’s start with the more winter-y shades although to be honest, I like dark colours all year round.

Clinique Pop Colour + Primer 03 Cola Pop (R275 at Red Square) – I was sent this lippie after attending an event. This wasn’t actually the colour that I had asked for, I wanted Grape Pop but they were out of stock and so I got stuck with this one. I was pretty upset, I can’t pull off brown lipstick! Well apparently I can – who knew. The Clinique Pop lippies have a built in primer and so they are supposed to stay put for a full 8 hours. Now it didn’t last that long on my lips but it definitely wasn’t short lived either. It was also really smooth and moisturising which I like.

Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick 850 Iris (R145 at Red Square) – This is a beaut of a colour, super seductive and sultry. The texture is lovely; it just glides on and feels very lightweight on the lips while still giving a very intense colour. Did I mention that it smells delish? I love wearing this on a night out with about a thousand layers of mascara on my lashes.

Wet n Wild Mega Last E908C Sugar Plum Fairy (R43.95 from Clicks) – I love a good bargain and Wet n Wild is just that. This colour is slightly more plum-my in colour than Revlon Iris and doesn’t glide on as smoothly but I still love it. I also find that it is slightly more matte and not as creamy. If you have very dry lips, make sure you give them a good scrub before applying this. The staying power is excellent; I actually battle to remove it with anything but an oil based cleanser.

Now onto some more daytime and summery shades.

Clinique High Impact 19 Extreme Pink (R255 at Red Square) – Don’t let the name of this scare you, it’s far from extreme pink! This is a really great everyday shade with a nice sheen that isn’t over kill. Like the Clinique Pop Colour, the texture is lovely and moisturising and glides on like a dream. It also has pretty good wear time, not as good as Wet n Wild Sugar Plum Fairy but a good 3 hours.

Essence 01 Coral Calling (R36.95 at Dischem or Clicks) – Another absolute bargain! I love Essence lipsticks, the quality is really great and they are a fraction of the price compared to other high end brands. This coral colour is a staple for me come spring. If I’m having a bleh make up day, this takes me from hot mess to hot in an instant. The texture is lightweight and creamy and it doesn’t settle into the lip creases.

Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick 800 Azalea (R145 at Red Square) – I received this lippie along with Iris at an event that I attended last week, which is always a bonus. When I saw this colour, I knew instantly that we would become best friends. The shade of pink is fun and flirty, I can tell that it’s going to get a lot of wear time! I’ve worn it once or twice already and love the fact that it’s so comfortable – I’m not overly conscious of a product being on my lips, always a plus!

I spoke about two of my other favourite lipsticks in my July favourites over here if you want to give that a read as well. It’s definitely heating up here in Jozi so I am on the hunt for some more summery shades, if you have a fave, let me know in the comments below!

  1. Oh my!!! I am obsessed with that Wet n Wild lipstick! I need it in my life! P.S. Have you tried out the LA Girl Matte Lipsticks yet? I’d love to know what you think.

    • Hi Imka! I bought one of the LA Girl Matte Lipsticks just out of pure curiosity. I’m in two minds about it to be honest. On one hand the staying power is brilliant – that stuff can withstand anything! But then on the other hand it’s not very comfortable to wear, it feels quite sticky in the corners of my lips and feels a bit heavy as well. What do you think of them? x

  2. Revlon’s Ultra HD lippies are some of my favourites – such a great texture, and I love the little ‘click’ when you start to unwind it (so random, I know!) This is such a great post – LOVE your photographs! xx
