When Urban Decay hit our shores every beauty junkie went cray cray and with it’s cult following, who can blame us? Over the past few months I have been lucky enough to stock up on a decent amount of product and so I thought that I should give you my honest thoughts on whats hot and whats not. So, if you’re in the market for some Urban Decay, keep on reading…
Naked Ultimate Basics
I’m like a magpie, if it’s shiny, I basically run towards it so of course when I saw this packaging I had to pick my jaw up off the floor.
This palette has twelve all new, matte shadows. They range between cool toned and warm toned neutrals and are exclusive to this palette.
The shadows are soft and buttery but I do find that if you don’t blend them properly, they can look patchy. My favourite shades are:
Blow: a light nude perfect for under the brow bone.
Tempted: a pale brown that I sweep across the whole lid for a simple everyday look.
Extra Bitter: I didn’t expect to love this burnt orange as much as I do but I love using it in the crease.
Magnet: the perfect grey to create a matte smokey look.
Single Eyeshadows
I need another single eyeshadow like I need a hole in the head but they’re just so pretty, I could never say no!
Like the Ultimate Basics palette, these shadows are soft and buttery but I find that they blend much easier. Virgin is a subtly sparkly nude that looks stunning as an inner corner highlight and Midnight Cowboy is a gorgeous glittery copper that can jazz up any look. Both are amazingly pigmented.
Illuminated Trio
When I saw this limited edition palette at the Urban Decay in November I was so excited. A baked highlighting trio, how divine!
There are three shades in this palette contain light reflecting particles that give you that luminous glow that we are all after.
As much as it breaks my heart to say this, I was a bit disappointed with this trio. Perhaps my hopes were too high but I just found that the colours weren’t as pigmented as I hoped that they would be and I battled a bit with the texture of the product.
In saying that however, I do use Pyrite (the golden champagne colour) quite a bit as a bronzer. In my opinion, a better option would be to buy a single bronzer, highlighter or blush. Something like Afterglow or the Beached Bronzer.
Razor Sharp Liquid Eyeliner
If you’ve been following me on Snapchat for a little while, you will know all about my struggle with liquid liner. I really battle to find one that doesn’t dry out after a few uses. Well, my prayers have been answered because I literally cannot get enough of this water resistant liner!
I have the shade Goldrush and at first I was a bit hesitant, I am all about that black liquid liner life. But, I am o-b-sessed! The gold pop of colour gives such a lovely summery feel to my make up and really makes blue eyes sparkle. The brush is super fine so you can create a barely there line or bulk it up for more of a statement.
It literally lasts all day with zero transfer, I am so impressed. I’ve got my eye on Deep End for my next purchase…
Peversion Mascara
This was at the top of my list when Urban Decay launched in South Africa. I am such a mascara freak, I just had to add this one to my collection.
I love the naughty way Urban Decay describes this product on their website: “So intesnse you might need a safe word.” Tongue in cheek aside though, this is a pretty awesome mascara. It is blacker than black and the formulation is perfect – not too wet that you constantly smudge it but also not too dry that you feel like you’re ripping out your lashes one at a time when applying it.
The wand is quite bulky and so if you are into fine, whispy lashes, this is not the mascara for you. Perversion creates bold, dramatic lashes without clumping or weighing the lashes down.
Vice Lipstick
With the gorgeous Ruby Rose as the face of this line (I mean, who doesn’t have a little bit of a girl crush on her?!), it was bound to be popular, never mind the fact that there are 100 shades to choose from!
There are also 6 finishes to pick and choose between: mega matte, comfort matte, cream, metallized, sheer and sheer shimmer. I have two of the shades and although they are completely different, they both have a deliciously smooth and creamy texture and have a pretty decent staying power.
Ex Girlfriend is a perfect sheer nude that I wear pretty much every day at the moment. It gives a very light wash of colour to your lips, just enough to show that you put a bit of effort in that morning. Twitch is the complete opposite, it is pretty bold and out there. I love the colour but find it quite difficult to wear, as it can make you looked washed out very quickly.
So, all in all I am really impressed by the quality of the Urban Decay products. Not only do they look amazing on my dressing table, but 90% of them perform brilliantly as well. I’m already making a mental list of what to add to my collection next…
