Pregnancy spa treatments at Evolve Day Spa

There isn’t a lot that can top a fabulous pregnancy spa treatment is there? I mean a spa treatment when you aren’t pregnant is incredible, but when you’re with child and you’ve had your feet rubbed, your shoulders massaged and your skin hydrated, you feel like you can literally take on the world… and the Braxton Hicks and heartburn that you know await you.

Over the past two months I have been treated to some really wonderful pregnancy spa treatments at Evolve Day Spa in Boksburg, Johannesburg. To be honest, Boksburg is the last place that I would go to to look for a luxurious spa, especially one that offers pregnancy friendly treatments but off I went, praying for the best. If you have been following me for a while you will know that I am actually incredibly picky when I go for treatments. I scrutinise everything from the way that I am greeted at the reception desk to the hygiene, even the wax pot; nothing is safe. This is probably the reason that I don’t often go for treatments, I am always left feeling disappointed and that it was a waste of money. Anyway, back to Evolve… I was so thrilled with the spa in general; it is “lick-the-floor” clean, the therapists are so friendly and welcoming and really know what they are talking about when it comes to skincare, ingredients and what’s going on in the industry. And the treatments… well they were just phenomenal!

I’ve had three pedicures at Evolve so I can really tell you with absolute certainty that they are fabulous. Each pedi was with a different therapist and each one of them gave the most amazing massage. If you are, or have been pregnant, you know how sore your feet can get, so this was such a treat. The rest of the pedicure is just as good as the heavenly massage; I have the most terrible dry heels (whether or not I’m pregnant) and they were tackled with gusto. I was also impressed with how long the nailpolish lasted on my nails, a full 4 weeks with absolutely no chipping.

When I’m pregnant my skin is extremely dehydrated, even more than it usually is and so I was thrilled when I was treated to a lovely Lamelle facial. My therapist (I have such terrible pregnancy brain that I honestly cannot remember her name… eeek!) was excellent and so knowledgeable, possibly one of the most knowledgeable therapists I have ever been to. I really appreciated the fact that she didn’t leave the room while my face mask was on, it is my absolute pet peeve. Instead I was treated to a divine hand and arm massage while I drifted off into lala-land. My skin felt fresh, plump and hydrated after my treatment and felt fantastic for a solid week after that as well.

My most recent treatment at Evolve Day Spa was a pregnancy massage. Let me say off the bat that massage isn’t a treatment that I make a beeline for, I usually don’t enjoy the experience and find it quite painful no matter how much I ask the therapist to change the pressure (probably a good indication that I need to have one more often to be honest) and so I really wasn’t expecting a pregnancy massage to be any different. Maybe it’s the crazy hormones, maybe I’m a new woman but I really enjoyed my massage. The pressure was perfect, and even though I was lying on my side I was so comfortable that I even fell asleep!

Evolve Day Spa has some really impressive retail products on their shelves and something that everyone can afford. They also have a rasul chamber and best of all, child minding services (with a full on play room) on specific days of the week! Aria and I are popping in next week and I’m sure she is going to have an absolute ball.

All in all, I think Evolve Day Spa may become my new destination when I’m in the mood to treat myself to something special. If you stay in the East Rand area, definitely pop in for a visit, they are even open until 8pm on Wednesday nights if you fancy a pamper session after work.
