Just before we went on our quick trip to Cape Town a few months ago, I put up an image on Instagram about the fab spray tan that I had done at Glow Couture. This is a big statement but, I am confident that it is the best spray tan in Johannesburg.

I had so many compliments both online and in person about how beautifully, but naturally bronzed I was looking, that I really wanted to tell you all about this absolute gem tanning studio in Johannesburg.

By now you all know that I am incredibly pale, only a few shades away from transparent, and so a spray tan is quite a daunting experience for me.

So many things can go wrong and I have definitely been on the receiving end of blotchy, orange spray tans. And let’s be honest, you can try all the remedies that Pinterest suggests but you’re pretty much stuck looking like an orange for the next two weeks.

Needless to say, I was feeling slightly apprehensive when I arrived at Glow Couture.

Glow Couture Salon

One of the main reasons that I booked my spray tan at Glow specifically (yip, I went as a paying customer) was because of where they were located: in a private residence in a quiet street. Which meant no funny stares when I left in my baggiest clothing, bra-less and make-up-free, no one looks good straight after a spray tan.

I’m not sure why, but this type of set-up, as opposed to a salon in a mall or shopping centre always feels so much more personal and welcoming to me. There is even a sparkling pool and gorgeous outdoor area to really put you in the holiday mood.

Run by three sisters, Christina, Anthea and Natasha, the Glow Couture studio is absolutely lovely with two spacious, private booths that you get sprayed in.

Inside, the booths are ridiculously clean, without even a trace of rouge spray tan which made me really excited – you know how pedantic I am about cleanliness in salons and spas.

There is no therapy bed in the booth either which I think makes life so much easier as you have so much more room to move to get sprayed from every single angle.

There is also a retail section where you can purchase the most gorgeous swimming costumes, shoes, bags and tons of other accessories.

Glow Couture has also recently started a line of locally handmade bags that are the perfect size to hold all your essentials, plus a little bit more, especially if you have a full day of running around.

My Spray Tan Experience

I was blown away by how meticulous and professional the Glow girls were. My tan was applied perfectly, and when I took my sweet time deciding on which colour to go for, it wasn’t a problem at all. In fact, they were so full of knowledge about which tan brand and colour would suit my skin tone the best.

The result was a tan that I was absolutely obsessed with, natural-looking, glowy and bronzed.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding and are a bit nervous about spray tans and whether they are safe for you to use, you will be happy to know that all of the spray tans that Glow Couture offers are completely safe for mommies-to-be as well as breastfeeding moms. In fact, all of the brands that they stock are cruelty-free as well!

I couldn’t recommend Glow Couture enough, they are by far the best spray tan in Johannesburg. Well worth the drive from anywhere, take my word for it!
