If you’re a regular around the Clicks aisles, I’m sure you’ve seen this new collection from Essence on the shelves already, if not, I’m here to give you the scoop. Keep reading until the very end of this post – I promise, it’s worth it…hint, hint, nudge, nudge…
I was lucky enough to be sent some of the goodies from the “Happy Girls Are Pretty” collection and then decided to buy one of the lippies to round things off – it just didn’t feel complete without one, call me crazy.
The first item that caught my eye was the eyeshadow palette in 02 Happiness Is…Following Your Heart (around R67,50). I love that this palette is dinky and compact but has all the neutral colours that you need to create a pretty eye look, from a sheer dusky pink to a deep cocoa brown. The colours are silky smooth and a pleasure to apply to my peepers. The alternate palette is called 01 Happiness Is…Seeing Your Smile and has more apricot, pink and grey colours.
This handy sized contour set (around R63,50) is up next. Now to be honest, I’m pretty scared of contouring. I’ll throw some bronzer on and add some highlighter but I haven’t mastered the art of chiseling out my cheekbones or making my double chin disappear. If you’re a beginner like me, I think that this could be the perfect starting out kit. The two powders are finely milled and not overly pigmented which helps when it comes to covering up mistakes. The highlighter isn’t the most shimmery I’ve ever laid my eyes on, but it still offers a lovely subtle sheen for more natural make up days.
When Essence brought out their Merry Berry collection, I went straight for the highlighter because of the beautiful star embossing. Well, they’ve done it again in the “Happy Girls Are Pretty” collection. Aptly named, 01 You Sweeten My Day (around R57,95), this multi colour blush and is such a treat to add to your make up collection. There is a lighter dusky pink which is great for those of us who aren’t massive blush wearers, and a darker shade that I think will look lovely on most complexions. Why not mix it up and combine the two?!
I never ever have a nail file in my bag and so when one of my nails snag, I really have a problem. And let’s be honest, having your nail catch on everything is a real pain! One of the reasons that I don’t carry a nail file in my handbag or make up bag is because I hate how all the nail dust comes off the file and goes everywhere – yuck! Essence saves the day with this super cute nail file in 01 Keep Calm and Be Happy (around R34,95) which comes in a really handy little case that clips open and closed. Its two sided with one side’s grit being more course than the other so you can shorten and shape your nails on the go. Oh, the heart decals don’t hurt either.
Next up is this sheer lipbalm in 02 Live, Laugh, Love and Repeat (around R44,50). This soft pink tone is so beautiful and really compliments the other items in the range. These lipbalms add a subtle colour to your lips whilst keeping them soft and smooth and perfectly kissable. There is a second shade called 01 Pretty you! which is a lovely rosewood colour.
There are also five nailpolishes in the range: 01 Make Me Smile, a solid white; 02 Happy Girls Rock, a gun metal grey; 03 Enjoy The Little Things, 04 Just Happy! and 05 Pretty You! are all subtle shades of pink and 06 The Choco Side Of Life a rich chocolate brown. Last but not least, there are two ultra slim eye pencils: 01 Happy Girls Rock which is a cool grey and also 02 The Choco Side Of Life which is a lovely dark brown.
Now for the best part – I am giving all of the Happy Girls Are Pretty make up items photographed in this blog post. So to recap, that includes:
