A little while ago the hubby and I really needed a break for some quality time. But being the silly season, we didn’t have the time to travel somewhere out of Johannesburg, and so began the hunt for an inner-city escape.
After many Trip Advisor searches, I stumbled upon The Residence boutique hotel in Houghton Estate. It looked incredible so we booked and started counting down the days until our night away.

The Residence Boutique Hotel Experience
As soon as we arrived at The Residence we were welcomed in with a glass of cherry and were offered a seat in the plush lounge – this set the tone for the entire stay.
We booked suite 5 and I suggest you do the same – it is completely secluded and private so you don’t feel that you are surrounded by other rooms. It also has an amazing jacuzzi that is on your private patio. All of the rooms are stocked with Charlotte Rhys amenities which I was thrilled by as I am a massive fan!
The Restaurant
We decided to stay and have dinner at the hotel – best decision! We had drinks in the beautiful piano lounge first before moving into the formal dining room.
The service was outstanding and the food absolutely scrumptious. We shared the prawn tempura to start, and for mains, I had the chicken breast with sundried tomato and feta and the hubby had the lamb shank (one of the best he’s ever had he said mid-way through). Dessert was delish and just the right amount to top off an amazing dinner.
The Amenities
The Residence also boasts a sparkling heated outdoor pool and tennis courts, forming a part of their stunning, well-kept gardens.
We have already planned to return next year and I have no doubt that it will be as amazing as this past visit.
