How to Style a Denim Midi Skirt

I love a wearable trend but I was hesitant to style a denim midi skirt I won’t lie. BUT after some hits and misses, I am obsessed with how versatile a denim midi is and how easy it is to wear.

I tried on quite a few denim midi skirts before buying one and something that I reckon makes or breaks it is the slit in the front. It breaks the denim up nicely and takes the look from frumpy to fabulous. You also want to make sure it is actually a midi length, not a maxi. Ideally, it should hit your legs mid to lower calf, but not as far as your ankles.

I’ve put together a collection of three denim midi’s that I think are great. The one I’m wearing in these pictures is from Cotton On.

To be honest, there aren’t a huge amount of retailers that have stock at the moment. I have a feeling that we will see the denim midi become more popular as we get closer to spring because it really is such a great transitional piece.

Now that you have your denim midi, how do you style it without looking frumpy? If you watched my latest reel, you’ll see I showcased a few different looks, all of which I love for different occasions. I’ve put together 3 looks in this blog post too with links to similar items from my reel.

I hope that this blog post has given you some confidence to style a denim midi skirt, a trend that I really have fallen head over heels for! A reminder of two things to remember when shopping and styling:

  1. Make sure that it is midi length and not maxi. The hemline should hit you about 10cm or so above your ankle.
  2. Personally, I find that a slit in the front makes it look less frumpy.
  3. A fitted top will look best and give you shape. If you’re wearing something more chunky on top (like the grey polo neck), wear a more slimline, fitted jacket.

I’d love to see you shop and style for your denim midi skirt, so don’t forget to tag me on social media when you do!
