Arias Fairy Party

As usual, our Aria knew exactly what kind of celebration she wanted to celebrate turning 7; a fairy party! Which let’s be honest, is very on brand for her, and as expected, she wanted to be super involved in the planning process (you can read more about how I learnt how to let go of control over here)

Together we trawled Pinterest (my absolute go-to for anything creative) and make a list of everything that she wanted to have at her party… to an extent of course, I had a budget to stick to!

Food

Let’s be honest, the most important part of a party! I was so sad when Michelle from Purple Whisk announced that she was emmigrating but luckily she managed to squeeze one last masterpiece in for us. The cake looked exactly like the one Aria chose on Pinterest and as usual tasted delicious with it’s condensed milk filling. Michelle was kind enough to also send us some absolutely stunning fairy themed biscuits.

Like with Maia’s painting party, we hosted Aria’s party at Kiddilicious, it’s just so convenient for us. We ordered exactly the same platters as last time (because they are so yummy) but I also added in some margarita pizzas as we had a few more people. These were placed on the actual table, and then I also made a few treats at home and brought them with to put on the cake table.

The first of these were the wand fruit skewers which came out beautifully! Aria and I spotted a picture on Pinterest and we basically just recreated them. I sliced up a big watermelon and used a cookie cutter to make the stars. We popped some grapes, strawberries and blueberries onto a long kebab stick, finished it off with the watermelon star and that was it! They really did look so sweet.

I had strict instructions from a few friends to not bother throwing a party if I didn’t make my mother-in-laws coconut ice, so I made a nice big pink batch of that and then also some popcorn which always goes down a treat.

One of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to parties is food wastage and so I am so glad that basically everything was gobbled and most definitely enjoyed!

Decor

The Kiddilicious team really is such a help when it comes to decor, they set up a whole table with balloons etc and even the sweetest fairy cut out. This did a wonderful job of setting the scene for us, Kerry and her team really are decor whizzes!

I always like my party favours to be practical and so more often than not they form part of the decor and also are a little activity for the kids to do at the party. For her fairy party, Aria requested that the activity be wand decorating. Easy peasy I thought… but I was wrong.

Guys I searched for days for affordable wooden wands, or even just a wooden star that I could then attach to a dowel, but came up empty handed. When I was at my absolute wits end, I remembered ordering a nativity scene from Durban-based company, Jigsaw Junk and being amazed and not only the price, but also the amazing quality. I decided to take a chance and message them to see if they could help me out.

What an absolute pleasure to work with Tracey from Jigsaw Junk. She messaged me back within a day, could absolutely help me out and her price was brilliant, completely within my budget. I was thrilled! When the wands arrived I couldn’t believe how excellent the quality was, honestly, I was blown away, they were exactly what I wanted for the wand decorating.

To go with my gorgeous wooden wands, I popped into Evermore and stocked up on some little plastic paint pots, acrylic paint, paintbrushes and some other crafty goodies like pompoms and jewel stickers. I also went to Chamdor and bought a bunch of different coloured ribbon.

When it came to setting the places, I had a base of a light purple paper plate and serviette. I popped the wand on top of that, and the paintpots (which I filled with paint and glitter at home) above it and then I used two cupcake holders filled with craft bits and pieces. I thought it would be better (and a good way to prevent squabbles between friends) if each child had their own set of things to decorate their wands with.

While the parties we throw for our girls aren’t extravagent, I truly love them and adore putting them together. And their choice of themes is always a wonderful suprise!
