I absolutely love getting my nails done, it just makes me feel so put together, especially because I have really horrific looking feet. The problem is that I have this little person that I need to look after, and I don’t really want to take her along to the salon. I could leave her with Dan on the weekends, but I would much rather us spend that time together. Anyway, this whole sob story means that I hardly go out to get my nails did. Until now that it, Tribe and You, a wonderful salon in Parkmore, Sandton is possibly one of the best concepts, ever. Whether you are a parent or not.
Martynne, the brains and owner behind Tribe and You is a mom who understands that sometimes, you really need some down time, but you also need to look after your kidlet. Keeping this in mind, Tribe and You was created as a place of relaxation for parents and non-parents alike, but what makes it different is that it has the most incredible play areas for children as well as compassionate and caring child minders. She even went as far as to install cameras so that you can watch your little one having the time of their life downstairs.
There is both an indoor and outdoor play area and they are both kitted to the nines with amazing activities, including arts and crafts indoors, and wonderful jungle gyms outdoors. It really is the perfect place for your child to run riot while your put your feet up (literally) and take a well deserved break.
In terms of treatments, Tribe and You offer both manicures and pedicures in either paint (OPI or Morgan Taylor) or Gelish. There are plans in the pipelines to also offer waxing and perhaps even lash extensions so make sure to stay tuned to their Facebook page to see when that all comes together. On a Friday you can have a wash and blow for only R150 while you have your nails done – win! They also stock Nailmatic, a nail polish made especially with kids in mind. There are a bunch of cute colours and best of all, it will wash off in the bath that night so no need to use harsh chemicals like acetone on your little ones skin.
I chose to have a Gelish manicure and honestly, it is the best gel application I have ever had, and believe me, I am not easy to impress. I was also treated to an absolutely divine pedicure. For me, the two things that are the most important when it comes to a pedi is the massage and the paint application. I am happy to say that they were both excellent. My therapist, Khosi is incredible and I am definitely going to book to get my nails done before we leave to go to Cape Town next month.
It’s not often that I am ridiculously impressed by a salon but Tribe and You is such a great concept with incredible therapists and products that I will definitely be back with Aria in tow.
