Our toddler’s evening routine feat. NUK

Our toddler’s evening routine has been pretty much the same since she was born; it’s nothing fancy at all, in fact I’m sure it’s pretty similar to your evening routine with your kids. None the less, I thought it would be fun to share what our evenings with Aria tend to look like. Make sure to read all the way to the end of this post for a really fab giveaway!

I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that having a consistent evening routine is one of the main reasons that Aria slept through at 4 months old. It has always important for us to have her in bed and asleep by 7pm so that Dan and I can enjoy some down time and each others company.

At about 5.30 I start to make supper, while I’m doing that, Dan keeps an eye on Aria (he gets home by 4pm every day), we have also recently started to teach her how to clean up her play room and so they do a bit of that together as well. Aria’s nails grow like wild fire and we have to cut them at least once a week, so if that needs to be done, Dan does it before dinner. We find this is the best time as Aria is pretty tired and so she sits perfectly still for a change.

The NUK nail clippers are really great; the main reason for this is the fact that there is a storage section for the clipped nails. This means no worrying about random nails flying everywhere, you can simply empty the little container when you’re done.

We generally eat dinner at around 6/6.30pm. This is a lot earlier than we used to eat dinner but it means that we eat together at the table, a habit that I think is really important. Aria loves her food and usually gobbles most of her meal down and often gives the dogs a sample or two as well. Our meals are really simple but always packed full of veggies.  If we have a pasta, I will often add some veggies onto the side. Some of Aria’s favourite meals include:

– roast chicken and veggies

– spag bol

– creamy bacon pasta

– lasagna

At this age, Aria feeds herself, albeit messily, but the food lands up in her mouth at the end. We have been using the NUK Easy Learning Feeding Spoon as well as the NUK Weaning Bowl. The spoons are fab as they have a non-stick grip and their shape has been specially designed for a child’s mouth. The NUK Weaning Bowl has also become a favourite in our home; not only does it have non stick handles on the sides, but it also has non stick grips on the bottom, making it a little bit more difficult for your child to throw that lovingly cooked meal onto the floor.

After supper time, it’s straight to the bath. Dan has always done the majority of Aria’s evening routine, it’s their time to spend together and bond. I think that this is probably Aria’s favourite part of her day, she loves her bath time; she splashes around and her newest trick, she lies on her back and just floats around for a while.

If you have a tiny baby, checking the temperature of the bath water is really important, the last thing you want is for the water to be way too hot. The NUK Submarine Bath Thermometer is great; it’s mercury free (it uses oil as the measuring fluid) and is also shatterproof.

While Dan baths and dresses Aria, I pack the dishwasher, clean away her last few toys and make her bottle. Since turning one, Aria has been on cows milk, and with zero issues. She only has two bottles a day; one in the morning when she wakes up, and one again when she goes to sleep for the night. I’ve been wondering when toddlers start to wean off their morning and evening bottles, let me know in the comments when your little one dropped their feeds.

Anyway, back to the night time bottle, I’m sure you saw my Instagram post a while ago chatting about the new Nature Sense range from NUK, we’ll we’ve been giving it a bash for the past few weeks. Aria had absolutely no issues using a different bottle which makes me even more confident that this bottle is the answer for moms who are concerned about nipple confusion. The bottles come in different sizes and there are also different teats that accommodate different feeds to always ensure you have a flow as close to the breast as possible. If you want to know even more about the Nature Sense bottles, give this video a watch.

Most nights, Aria will fall asleep straight after finishing her bottle, other nights she might have a little chit chat to herself before dosing off, either way, she is usually dead asleep by 7pm.

Once she’s asleep, it’s feet-up-wine-poured-sink-into-the-couch time for Dan and I.

See, I told you that our toddler’s evening routine was really simple and the NUK products mentioned have been a fab addition.

  1. As an almost first-time mom I’m trying to read up as much as I can in preparation. It’s nice to hear what other parents do and what their routines are. 🙂 The bath thermometer thingy sounds awesome!
