laser hair removal Ft. The Laser Beautique

Summer is finally here and that means hairy legs become a thing of the past. If you, like me, hate the schlep of shaving (so much work, so much time, so many cuts!) and are thinking of taking the plunge and getting laser hair removal, keep on reading!

I had laser done a few years ago, and while it was quite effective, it wasn’t a painless procedure. Luckily technology has made massive strides and there are newer laser machines that deliver better results and often a pain free procedure. The Laser Beautique in particular uses diode laser technology which is safe for all skin types and is pain free (yippee!). Diode laser targets the pigment found in the hair shaft and then travels all the way down to the hair follicle. It’s at this point where all the energy from the laser accumulates and damages the follicle, meaning that it will be unable to create a new hair – one step closer to hairlessness! Don’t worry, you don’t have to have each hair individually lasered like the old school prick and place method, this modern type of laser procedure uses a unique in motion technique which is less time consuming. An underarm treatment takes about 15min which is nothing!

One thing to remember with laser is that it is not a once off treatment. Your hairs are all in different stages of growth and laser can only work in the Anagen phase, where the hair is still attached to the follicle. This means that you will need between 8-12 sessions, 4-6 weeks apart before you are as hairless as a Sphynx cat. Of course, some skin types deliver results faster than others – the ideal candidate would have light skin and dark hair as the laser would be able to pick up the hair pigment a lot more easily. If you have darker skin, laser will still be effective, but may just take a few more sessions. I would suggest popping into one of The Laser Beautiques salons to get a free consult so that you know exactly what you’re in for and to see if you are contra-indicated to the treatment, they have branches in both Cape Town and Johannesburg, click here to find your nearest one.

Here’s the bit I’m most excited for – The Laser Beautique is offering all Mascara & Mimosa readers that have never been to one of their salons before, 20% off any laser treatment! Just print out the voucher below and present it when you arrive for your appointment. Just be sure to read the terms and conditions.

I’ve considered laser a gazillion times because I’ve been epilating due to endless shaving-troubles, and as per your post, I’ll be the perfect laser candidate then, yay.
Thanx for being an enabler xx

Its like you read my mind with this post haha. I have been contemplating lazer hair removal for quite some time. As I have very sensitive skin shaving and waxing are not my friend. So definitely think I will give it a go.

I’m so glad you found this post helpful Abby! I only had 4 sessions of laser on my underarms (so I didn’t finish the course – moved from CPT to JHB midway) and it really made the most massive difference, I can’t wait to go back and finish the course as soon as this bambino is out of me! Let me know how the laser goes xxx
