Summer skin is tough – you want to keep your skin as hydrated and protected as possible but you don’t want to use so much product that you feel like you have 20 layers caked onto your face and it’s about to melt off. I’ve rounded up a few of my favourite products that made my summer holiday skin routine simple but still gave me everything I needed.
The Body Shop Vitamin E Body Butter
I love this body butter from the Body Shop. The fragrance isn’t too pungent and you really don’t need to use a lot. I do find that it is a little bit too thick for during the day but I lather myself in this at night and when I wake up in the morning my skin is silky smooth. Remember to really concentrate on your elbows, knees and heels.
To really double up the efficiency of this product, do a really good body exfoliation beforehand. If you don’t have anything on your bathroom shelves, mix a bit of sugar, olive oil and a few drops of essential oil together – cheap and easy DIY body scrub!
Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster
Everyone knows I’m a huge Dermalogica fan and this is probably one of my top 3 products.
Its pumped full of Hyaluronic Acid – this super smart ingredient can hold 1000 times its weight in water!
You can use this product of two ways: you can add 4 drops into your moisturiser and then apply to your skin or you can apply 6 drops onto cleansed skin before applying your moisturiser. I find what works best for me is to apply it onto cleansed skin at night underneath my moisturiser. But you can really play with it to find what works best for you.
Dr Gobac Sunscreen SPF 25
I raved about this sunscreen a few weeks ago (you can read about it here). I used it every day while we were in Namibia and had zero burning, being fair skinned this is awesome!
You use such a small amount and I didn’t find that there was any white residue at all.
Now that I’m back in Jozi and back in the swing of things, I’m using it underneath my foundation and it’s still working perfectly without feeling too thick on my face.
Dermalogica Multi Active Toner
I kept this baby in my handbag where ever I went this holiday. It is instantly refreshing and also helps hydrate the skin.
The hubby got a bit sunburnt so I spritzed a bit on his shoulders and the lavender helped soothe the burn quite a bit which I was chuffed by.
In a normal skin regime you would sprits this before applying your moisutriser but I keep mine in my car to help hydrate during the day since that’s where I spend most of my time.
Inglot Highlighting Powder
A great way to add a bit more pizazz for the evening. Simply sweep across your cheekbones and collar bones.
OPI Avo Juice
Since moving to Jozi I’ve found that my hands are constantly feeling dry and almost chapped sometimes.
I literally go through one of the travel size OPI Avo Juices a week – I have a real addiction! It smells divine (all of the flavours do but my favourite is the raspberry violet) and the avocado oil helps to nourish and hydrate the skin. I also find that it doesn’t feel thick on my hands and absorbs really quickly which is great as I hate having sticky hands.
So there you have it – a few products to pop on your bathroom shelves or in the beach bag!
