Dermalogica’s high performance products

This past Saturday I attended the Dermalogica consumer day at their concept store in The Zone, Rosebank. It was such a great afternoon learning about their new high performance products and being spoilt with an incredible microzone treatment.

Dermalogica is a professional skin care brand used all over the world. It has 3 cores that make it stand out:

  1. Facemapping – this is Dermalogica’s specific way of doing a skin analysis and is how they educate us, their client on what’s happening in our skin and why.
  2. Microzone treatments – these are 20-30 min targeted treatments, focusing on a clients main concern. For example, an anti-ageing treatment for the eye area. These are great, not only because it is an express treatment, but because you walk away with the result that you wanted to achieve.
  3. Skin bar – my favourite! Dermalogica believes that you should be able to see, touch, smell and play with a product to decide if you love it and if it would be beneficial to your skin care regime. This is usually a little “island” in the skincare centre full of testers, ready to be put to use.

Lara, an educator from Dermalogica gave a great talk on their new releases: A range to combat pigmentation, a spot fighting power product and a silky smooth primer to hide redness.

Powerbright – if you suffer from pigmentation (discolouration and dark spots), this is the line for you! When our melanocytes are overactive (this could be because of hormones, sun damage or sensitivity), we are left with dark patches on our skin. The purpose of Powerbright is to control the melanin production. There are three products in this line. The Pure Light (RRP R895 for 50ml) has an SPF of 50 and is your day cream. It is super light-weight, has a lovely, fresh scent and will keep your skin hydrated throughout the day.  Pure Night (RRP R1080 for 50ml) will function as your night cream. It has vitamin C that will help to control the melanin production and pumpkin enzyme that helps to soothe the skin. Lastly, there is the C-12 Concentrate (RRP R1200 for 30ml) which you pop on underneath your Pure Night. This incredible product not only controls the melanin production, it also helps to brighten the skin thanks to phytic acid.

Breakout Control – Dermalogica’s new blemish fighting spot treatment (RRP R620 for 30ml). This awesome zit zapper can be used both day and night, but only on the actual pimple. It contains colloidal silver which kills and destroys the bacteria that cause us to break out but does not dry out the skin. Zinc sulphate helps to soothe the angry skin surrounding the pimple. Great to know: this product is benzoyl peroxide free!

Ultracalming Redness Relief Primer – I myself have a very reactive skin. It’s always red, and so I end up re-applying my foundation about 20 times a day to cover my rosy red cheeks. Enter the Redness Relief Primer (RRP R630 for 22ml). First of all, this is a primer so your make up will look flawless and skin imperfections will be disguised. Secondly, it has an SPF 20 to protect your skin from sun damage. Thirdly, it has a green tint, I know, GREEN! But this is what counteracts the redness. Fourthly, it contains oat and botanical actives that work deep down into the skin to relieve inflammatory triggers that make the skin so sensitive and red. I have been using this product for the past week, and I have to say, I am loving it! I used to use the AgeSmart Skin Perfect Primer which was great, but this new Redness Relief Primer has the green pigment, and that makes all the difference for me.

While we were playing at the Skin Bar, I picked up some great tips:

  • Dermalogica believes in a double cleanse. First with PreCleanse that will dissolve all of the oil soluble particles (like make up) and then with your prescribed cleanser which will actually clean your skin.
  • The Soothing Eye Make Up Remover (RRP R360 for 118ml) is perfect for people with lash extensions as it contains no oil. For those of us that don’t, it contains Silk Amino Acids that help to strengthen and condition the eyelashes.
  • Dermalogica’s toners are very different to the normal ones. They are misters that you can sprits on your face throughout the day. They help to plump the skin cells, protect the skin and hydrate the skin.
