Everyone knows I’m a huge advocate of having a good facial every 4-6 weeks (you can read that post over here). And when I say good facial, I don’t mean a slap dash, throw on some moisuturiser kind of one. No, to me a good facial means that it will include highly concentrated professional products that I can’t get my hands on to use at home because lets be honest, we can all do a facial in the comfort of our own bathrooms. After I’ve had a professional facial i want to see instant results on my skin: it should be more hydrated, plumped up and the texture should be refined. I know, I really don’t ask for much…
I met Carla at an event that we both attended and she invited me to come for any treatment at her skin centre. I was tempted to try the micro needling but chickened out and eventually settled on a QMS Activator facial. I had never had a QMS facial or used their products, if you haven’t either, here is some information on them:
- 82% of the ingredients in the QMS products are skin identical, this means that the skin instantly recognises them as its own and absorption is that must faster and so results are seen sooner.
- QMS is a cosmeceutical skin care system (a mash up of a cosmetic and a pharmaceutical) and boasts an impressive array of active ingredients and collagen enhancing technology.
- Did you know that our collagen supply starts to dwindle as early as 25 years old? Besides the fact that our skins are now starting to age more rapidly before, they also start to get more dehydrated because collagen plays a major role in our moisture levels.
- QMS is safe for pregnant and breastfeeding woman and is also not a systemic product meaning that it does not enter the bloodstream.
When I walked into My Skin Spa the first thing that grabbed me was the decor – it is so unlike anything I’ve ever seen in a spa or skin centre, but i instantly liked it! The receptionist was so friendly and while I was filling out my consultation card (these are so important, never have a treatment without filling one in) she got some water for me from their very cool refreshment bar. Carla shares the space with a chiropractor and a reflexologist so this really is a one stop shop.
Once I was in the therapy room, Carla sat me down and we had a really good chat about my skin concerns and what my expectations were. What really impressed me, and something that a lot of therapists do not do now a days is that she went through the client card with me. More specifically the medication that I am currently taking and any conditions that I may have that could be contra-indicated to the treatment we were about to have. This is so important – something as insignificant as being on cortisone cream can mean that you risk a layer of your skin getting pulled off during waxing, not ideal. So already, Carla was in my good books.
After she had left, I took off the clothing that I needed to and hopped onto the bed. What a pleasure to not be lying on one of those narrow therapy beds where I always feel like my arms are falling off. I was so comfy and cozy and it really set the mood for me to relax and enjoy the facial.
Carla’s touch is lovely, really gentle but she still uses enough pressure for to feel effective. After doing a skin analysis, we decided to change my facial to the Classic Collagen Rejuvenation facial to make sure that I got enough hydration and lets face it, I need to start taking anti ageing seriously now and this facial includes 70% naturally soluble collagen. My favourite part of the whole facial were the masks – yes, there was more than one! The first one was a plasticising mask that Carla also put over my eyes, it was really lovely and cooling, especially since my skin had been quite stimulated from an amazing AHA exfoliation. You can also have this mask put over your mouth but I’m quite claustrophobic so I chose not to. The second mask is a plaster of Paris mask which actually hardens on your skin. Carla did a lovely shoulder, neck and scalp massage while my masks were on and I found myself having a little snooze which was great!
After my facial Carla gave me a mirror to see what my skin looked like and I was blown away, it looked incredibly hydrated and so plumped up and healthy. I was so impressed and had to keep telling myself to not touch my face because it felt so soft. Those of you who follow me on Twitter would have seen that I actually faced the world (Tasha’s no less!) sans make up and 2 people came up and complimented me on my skin. That does not usually happen to me, which just makes me believe that it had to be my incredible facial and therapist – thank you Carla!
I don’t want to be the only one to experience an amazing QMS facial at My Skin Spa and so I am giving away a QMS Med Express facial to one lucky reader (again, thanks to Carla).
