new launches from Dermalogica

Aaaaaah, I love new product launches. Its like my drug of choice, I can’t not have what’s new on the market. When the Dermalogica invite landed in my inbox a while ago I was pretty excited, that excitement only increased when I realised that Dr Diana Howard all the way from Los Angeles, one of the big brains behind the brand would be the person who would be educating us on the three soon to be launched products.

First up is the Hydra Blur Primer. Now, if you didn’t know, Dermalogica already has two primers out: AGE Smart Skin Perfect Primer, which is slightly tinted and is aimed at those more concerned with ageing or pre-mature ageing and also the Ultracalming Redness Relief which has a green tint to counteract any redness. The new Hydrablur is for those of us that have dehydrated, parched skin. It is going to hydrate your skin while still providing a blurring effect, disguising uneven skin tone so that you have a perfectly radiant skin with a flawless canvas should you wish to apply make up. What makes this primer so great for those of us that suffer from dehydration is that the H2ORelease™ Complex prevents transepidermal water loss and locks in moisture so that you stay hydrated all day. Other ingredients include Abyssinian Seed Oil to smooth the skins texture and maintain the skins moisture level (don’t worry, it wont clog your pores!), mattifiers to reduce shine and give that lust worthy blurred effect, Fomes Officinalis Mushroom Extract that reduces pore visibility, and last but not least Wu-Zhu-Yu Fruit Extract to give you that JLo glow by boosting microcirculartion. The Hydra Blur Primer is scheduled to be released in February 2016 (RRP is still TBC).

Next up is a product I was lucky enough to find a travel size of in my goodie bag, even though it’s only launching in April 2016. The Charcoal Rescue Mask is amazing and I’m going to tell you why. This mask definitely packs a good punch, it detoxifies, brightens, draws out impurities and oils, calms redness as well as improves skin texture and smoothness. So really, it’s great for everyone, whether you’re concerned with ageing, sensitivity, congestion or even lacklustre skin, this baby is a winner. Of course the main ingredient is charcoal, but its not the same stuff you gooi on the braai, this is a specific type of charcoal from Japan called Binchotan (aka Japanese Ubame Oak) Charcoal. This crafty charcoal is responsible for drawing out toxins and other impurities (it can actually draw out up to 1000 times its weight!) – perfect after a big night out! Although it doesn’t smell like it (no one likes that rotten egg smell), sulphur is also one of the helping hands in this product. Not only will it increase cell turnover (hello brighter, younger looking skin) but it is also great for combating redness as well as being anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. Some other power players in the Charcoal Rescue Mask are Volcanic Ash that act as a physical exfoliator; Phyic, Lactic and Malic Acid will act as chemical exfoliators; Niacinamide helps to alleviate redness and Chilean Wild Mint refines pores.

Overnight Retinol Repair has already hit our shelves (RRP R1350) so here’s all the info before you rush and buy it. The star of the show here is the 0.5% of Retinol (pure vitamin A) and for good reason: Retinol has shown to reverse signs of both intrinsic and extrinsic ageing, it also improves the skins structure, cell renewal and increases collagen production. The key here is that the Retinol is microencapsulated which means that the entire 0.5% will be delivered into the skin, not just part of it. Sounds pretty impressive doesn’t it? The only downside to Retinol is that you could suffer from a reaction because of how strong and powerful it is. But Dermalogica thought of a brilliant solution, when you purchase the Overnight Retinol Repair you will also receive a Buffer Cream. Basically, you will start using the Overnight Retinol Repair by diluting it with the Buffer Cream and then slowly start to increase the strength after two weeks of use. Smart hey? We were so spoilt and received a full size Overnight Retinal Repair in our goodie bag, I couldn’t wait to get my grubby little hands all over it but alas, it was not meant to be. If you are pregnant, it is advised that you don’t use this product (or any other vitamin A product) and so for now it is tucked away until bebe makes it’s appearance.

Which product are you most excited for and have you tried the Overnight Retinol Repair yet?
