baby massage with Johnson’s + giveaway

When I was pregnant I absorbed information like a sponge, I wanted to know everything that I could
about having a baby. Something that I saw come up a lot was baby massage, it seemed to be
everywhere!

After doing some thorough research (big thanks to Michelle from Bits and Bobs for Moms for helping
me, a lot!), I can’t think of any good reason not to give your baby a massage every now and again. Not
only is it a wonderful way to bond but it also assists with neurological and brain development, aids
digestion and increases lymph flow to the lymph nodes.
Johnson’s is about to come out with their new Top to Toe range at the end of the month and it is
going to make giving your baby a massage even better! Included in the range is a body wash which
smells wonderfully fresh and as well as an Extra Moisturising Baby Cream that has made Aria’s skin
as soft as can be. But the two products that I was most excited about were the two massage
mediums:
Top to Toe Baby Massage Oil (RSP R36,95 for 200ml): This dermatologically tested oil gives a
wonderful slip when massaging and you really only need the tiniest amount. It doesn’t have a strong
fragrance and once you are finished massaging, there is no trace of oily residue. I find this is best to
use after Dan has bathed Aria as it seals in all of the moisture.

Top to Toe Baby Massage Lotion (RSP R39,95 for 200ml and R59.95 for 500ml): I love to use this
massage lotion if I massage Aria during the day. It is pH balanced, enriched with high quality oil and
protects the skin from dryness and irritation which is such a plus for me as Aria’s skin gets
dehydrated at the drop of a hat.

All of the new Top to Toe products are perfect to use on your baby from birth, the ingredients are
gentle and formulated to nurture a healthy skin.

Now I’m not going to tell you about too many massage movements or we would be here all day
but I wanted to let you in on my two favourites:
This first one is a wonderful movement if your little one is struggling with constipation – make sure to go in
the direction of digestion though! You can add 2-5 drops of Neroli or Mandarin essential oil to your
massage medium to assist further.
Apply massage oil or lotion to your baby’s tummy with slow, flowing movements.
Put your hand on the baby’s tummy, over their belly button and make a fan like movement in the direction of digestion x3

Make slow, flowing movements up over their over tummy,  down the shoulders and arms, ending on fingers.

I love to use these massage movements to help relax aria if she has had a particularly rough day. If
you want to add an essential oil, you can add 2-5 drops of Lavendar or Chamomile.
Apply your massage oil or lotion to the legs and feet and hold the feet for a few seconds.
Use circular thumb movements on the soles of the feet using gentle but firm pressure.
Follow with rotation movements on top of each toe with the thumbs and finish with a gentle pressure
on each nail.
This reflexology chart is quite useful if there is something specific that is bothering your little one.

End with holding the feet.
