L’Oreal Colour Riche Matte Lipsticks: Review + Swatches

Oh hello Monday! Hopefully your day has started off well, and if not, I’m here to give you some good news: there are some new matte lipsticks available from the drugstore and they are amazing (bar one of two), woohoo! I’m not going to waste time on chit chat, let’s just get straight to the good stuff and chat about the L’Oreal Colour Riche Matte lipsticks.

The new L’Oreal Colour Riche Matte lipsticks are here and they are fabulous. They boast a matte-moist formula that makes them extremely comfortable to wear, and we all know how uncomfortable a matte lip can be. I test drove a bunch of them and they all have the same gorgeous creamy texture and glide on, even if your lips are dehydrated like mine.

They dry down quickly and the wear time is excellent, it was a good four or five hours before I needed to touch up. I didn’t feel like they exaggerated the dry patches on my lips (might have something to do with the jojoba oil that all the lippies are infused with) and the colour didn’t bleed at all.

I received 8 of the Colour Riche Matte lipsticks to try out and so I have swatched them for you below. I decided to swatch on my actual lips for a change. Which do you prefer: swatches on the forearm or on the lips? Let me know in the comments. Also, these swatches are completely unedited so please excuse the dry lips, random pimple and odd tufts of baby hair

104 Strike a Rose: I think this is one of my favourite shades from the line, it’s got great pigmentation and is such a versatile pink that is perfect for every day wear.

227 Hype: I love a good coral and so I was really excited about this shade. And as wonderful as the texture and staying power is, I just didn’t find it pigmented enough for me.

241 Pink-a-Porter: I think this shade and Strike a Rose are going to be two of my staple pinks this winter. They are just so wearable! I find that Pink-a-Porter has a slight orange undertone so it would probably look better on me when I’m a bit more bronzed but I’m still going to wear it while I’m as white as paper.

344 Retro Red: Like Hype, the pigmentation of this shade really disappointed me. I was hoping for a lot more kapow from this red and it just didn’t deliver unfortunately.

347 Haute Rouge: Oh man I love this shade so much. It is such an intense pink-red and makes your teeth look a lot whiter than they actually are. You get great pigmentation with one swipe and it doesn’t bleed at all.

349 Paris Cherry: Another red shade, but this time a lot more brick-y. It’s a gorgeous pick for winter and you’ll get a lot of use out of it.

463 Plum Tuxedo: I absolutely love the look of purple and plum lipsticks but they just never ever look good on me. So as glorious and as pigmented as this shade is, it just doesn’t suit me personally. There is nothing wrong with the actual product, so if you have a different skin tone, try it out and let me know your thoughts!

636 Mahogany Studs: I don’t know about you but I am loving this 90’s brown trend that’s been happening for a while. Mahogany Studs is a beautiful soft brown that I think will suit most complexions, especially fair skins as often these more tawny shades can make us look washed out.

What are your thoughts on this launch from L’Oreal?

  2. Love the swatches on the lips! Makes it a lot easier to judge- thanks.x

  3. I’ve always loved L’Oréal Lipstick used to use it and then the range got discontinued. Def going to try this out asap. Your blog is great and so are the pics, looks real and that’s what I like.

  4. A matt lipstick that’s creamy and comfortable to wear? Um, yes please! Love the look of Strike a rose, and Mahogany studs. 🙂
