Life lessons for my daughter ft. Peony + Pea

My gorgeous little Aria Rae, you are almost 2 years old and you have already learnt so much; how to walk and run, jump and climb and you certainly know how to talk, our (sometimes cryptic) conversations are my best! I know that as you get older, you will have so many more things to learn – harsh life lessons and oh how I wish that I could protect from those! I’ve had my fair share of hard blows handed me by life and I leant so much from those trying times. I hope that by me sharing just a few of these, it will make your life even just a tiny bit easier.

Be your own whole person: I remember feeling like I wasn’t enough, less than, and sometimes that being in a relationship would complete me. I can’t quite remember when the lights went on, but the day that I realised that I was enough, my life changed; my confidence soared and I was a much happier person. There is nothing holding you back in life except for your own self doubt my darling girl. Speak to yourself, ingrain it into your mind: you are enough and you are more than capable.

Nourish your love for reading: Oh how I wish that I could be like you or your Dad, you devour books the same way that I launch into a cheese burger. Keep reading, keep learning my baby, it can only set you in good stead. When you start reading for yourself, I hope that you let your imagination go wild, and when you have to start reading for school, allow your brain to soak up all that knowledge like a sponge.

Taking risks is great, but do so carefully: Every now and again we need to take a leap of faith and I want you to take those risks with confidence, but I also want you to know when it’s not worth taking a risk. This is a learned skill and I hope with all my might that you won’t have to get burnt too badly to learn this lesson.

Be kind: If I fail at teaching you everything else, I hope that I teach you to be kind. There really isn’t anything more to say about this, except that I know it is one of the keys to living a happy and fulfilled life.

Life is full of twists and turns, ups and downs but wherever it takes you, my love for you is unconditional, my beautiful baby girl.
