Popping on a face mask twice a week is such a wonderfully relaxing experience for me and I’ve made it a bit of a ritual. There is nothing better than soaking in the bath (don’t worry – we use the bath water for a host of different things around the house the next day) after a long day and treating your skin. I’ve got a pretty ridiculous amount of face masks (I’m a fan, I can’t help it) but I wanted to chat about the ones that I have been using the most over the last few weeks. And so, here are my current favorite face masks.
LUSH Catastrophe Cosmetic (from LUSH stores): I do love me a little reward system, and if it benefits the planet, even better! Did you know that every time you return 5 empty LUSH pots you can choose one of their Fresh face masks to take home with you? Such a great initiative! I chose Catastrophe Cosmetic and I am so glad that I did, it really is a great all-rounder. The main ingredient is blueberries which act as an amazing anti-oxidant as well as pump vitamins and minerals into the skin to help reduce inflammation. This mask feels wonderfully cooling on my skin and I definitely notice a glow the next day. Because all of the ingredients in the Fresh masks are just that, fresh, you have to keep this product in the fridge and they only last a month before going “off”.
L’Oreal Pure Clay Detox Mask ( from DisChem and Clicks): I attended the launch of the L’Oreal Pure Clay Masks a little while ago and we were sent home with all three of the new masks. I’ve tried them all once or twice now and my favourite by far is the Detox one. It’s main ingredient is charcoal (which seems to be everywhere at the moment, doesn’t it?) which is wonderfully purifying and draws out impurities. As with most detox masks, you will break out slightly a few days after using it, it’s just all the gunk being pulled out of your skin, in saying that though, I only had one or two small pimples. For a drugstore mask, this one is excellent and definitely worth having!
Skoon Ruby Marine Mask ( online here): I did a full first impressions post on a bunch of Skoon products that you can read over here. My favourite by far was the Ruby Marine Mask and so I purchased a mini pot at Kamers Vol Geskenke last year. Obviously I love the fact that it has hyaloronic acid in it, but it also has a bunch of other wonderful ingredients like marula oil and wildflower honey. The purpose of the Ruby Marine Mask is to give your skin a boost of moisture overnight. I make a point of popping it on once a week and it has made such a difference, my skin feels plumper and definitely not as dehydrated as it normally would be this time of the year. Proudly South African and cruelty free, this is a brand you need to try out!
The Body Shop Warming Mineral Mask (from The Body Shop or Clicks): I absolutely love using this mask during Winter and because we have had a few chilly nights recently, I’ve pulled it out from the back of the beauty cupboard. This is a very thick clay mask that heats up once you apply it to your skin, it feels absolutely amazing. I like that it doesn’t dry down and so you don’t get that tight feeling on your face after 5 minutes. I find that it really seems to kick my skin into gear and the next day I always notice that it feels softer and just looks a lot more healthy. There is a bunch of kaolin clay in this mask so it does it’s fair share of purifying as well.
Which one of these masks are on the top of your list?
