It’s not here quite yet, but the big chill is on its way and I for one, couldn’t be happier – I’m a winter baby through and through. I love the cold and (almost) everything that goes with it: boots and scarves, tea and rusks in the morning and of course snuggling under a blanket on the couch in the evening. The one thing that I don’t love about the colder months, is how dry my skin gets. I don’t know if it’s an “out of sight, out of mind” thing that happens because I’m bundled up in so much clothing that I forget to pay my skin as much attention as I do in the summer months, but I tend to start looking a little bit like a lizard.
I have found that the only way to keep my skin from hitting rock bottom, is to be religious about exfoliation and so I decided to round up my top 3 products that I’m currently using. Added bonus – they’re all affordable!
Caribbean Tan Cinnamon & Coconut Skin Smoothing Exfoliator (R59,95): I received this product in a press drop for Valentine’s Day and I remember that when I started opening the package, I wondered what was making it smell so incredible. It was this scrub. It’s not too coconut-ty and not too cinnamon-ny either, it’s the perfect balance. Because it’s a sugar scrub, it’s fairly rough on the skin – hooray! I am not a huge fan of what I call “fairy touch scrubs”. I want to feel like a scrub really is sloughing off all those dead skin cells. The added jojoba oil is great as it ensures the skin is left feeling soft and moisturised, not stripped and dry. A word of warning, this is a messy scrub and so if you use it in the bath, be prepared to give it a good wash out afterwards. I tend to use this once a week or so on dry skin and then hop into the shower to rinse it off. Caribbean Tan products are available from Clicks and Dischem stores as well as online on Takealot.
The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Rough Scrub (R150): We all know how nourishing argan oil is and so I was really happy to see an exfoliator infused with it at The Body Shop. When I opened it up for the first time, the consistency was a bit of a suprise – it’s a gel consistency and so it tends to be wobbly in the tub. This isn’t a very coarse exfoliator and so it’s become my “everyday scrub”. Yes, I scrub my body most days – it just makes my skin feel so soft and smooth. The scent of this exfoliator is sweet but in a spicy way and I really enjoy it.
Je Spa Hand and Body Sugar Polish (R60): Natalie from Luna Lacey gave me this scrub as part of my Christmas present last year and I l-o-v-e it! It is a very thick consistency and definitely the most “scrubby” of all of my exfoliators. Unlike the Caribbean Tan scrub which is oil based and the gel-like consistency of The Body Shop scrub, the Je Spa polish has a cream consistency which I honestly have never really encountered with an exfoliator but it leaves my skin so nourished and with no horrible oily film. I have the rose, geranium and lavender scented one and it smells like a Victorian garden, absolutely heavenly. Usually I stay away from lavender as the scent really doesn’t appeal to me but it seems to work like a charm in this product – hooray! You can purchase Je Spa products off their website over here.
All of these scrubs are pretty close to being finished so please let me know what some of your favourite body scrubs are in the comments below so that I can stock up!
My skin is always soooo dry in winter – gonna have to scrub all day erriday 😉
Your pictures are gorgeous! Enjoyed this post, I am also a solid winter-girl!
Thanks for the awesome post!
Excited to give them all a try. My absolute fav is the grapefruit one from body shop. It smells delicious and works like a charm.
Such a great post! Like you, I’m a bit of a scrub addict! The Caribbean Tan scrub is one of my favourites, but I’m also REALLY love The Body Shop Spa Of The World Dead Sea Salt Scrub (also a nice, gritty one) and L’Occitane’s scrubs are also amazing – you must check them out!
