I’m sure you’re going to read variations of this specific sentence a lot over the next few days but I just have to say it: Can you believe that 2015 is pretty much over?! I mean, it’s mind boggling! Let’s not kid around, 2015 seems to have been a very testing year for most, I can say without a doubt that it has been for me with so many ups, downs and changes. But its all worked out for the best from what I can tell so far…eeeek! Anyway, I thought this would be a great time to reflect on some of the products, both skincare, body care (including hair) and make-up that stole the show for me this year.
I decided to start with skincare for no particular reason, so lets jump straight in!
The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil: You know my obsession with the double cleanse and this cleansing oil is perfect for the first step. It has a very light to zero fragrance, isn’t too heavy and dissolves the heaviest of make up with no problem. When I use it over my eyes to remove my thousand layers of mascara, it has never made them sting which is great if you have sensitive eyes like me. My skin feels soft and supple after using this with no oily residue. This product is an absolute staple as far as I’m concerned.
LUSH Ultrabland Cleanser: This was my skin saviour during the horrid, dry winter months. It’s extremely nourishing and completely divine. Almond oil really feeds the skin what it needs to counteract those dry patches. Although this is a much thicker cleanser than what I’m used to, I didn’t feel any residue on my skin after I had removed it with a warm cloth. Somehow the cream to oil consistency felt extremely luxurious making me enjoy this product even more. Good to know – LUSH products are vegan and cruelty free.
Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Pads: Is there anything better than a product that is quick and simple to use but still effective? It’s like a dream come true! This little tub comes with 60 pads, each soaked in a 2.8% glycolic acid solution. This is the star ingredient as it helps to retexturise, resurface and exfoliate the skin. There is also a decent amount of hyaluronic acid in there to hydrate as well as some witch hazel to tone. I use one of these pads every morning and I have to say, I think it’s one of the reasons my make up applies so smoothly. I haven’t experienced and stinging or redness and my skin is fairly reactive. LUSH Mask Of Magnaminty: We all have those days (or weeks in my case) where our skin just goes a bit mental. I found that this Shrek green mask really does the trick. I love the minty sensation on my skin, just enough tingle with zero sting. Bentoite clay and kaolin pull all of the nasties out of your pores leaving you with fresh, happy skin. I tend to use this twice a week and that seems to sort the problem out.
Kiehls Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturising Serum Concentrate: I’ve seen so many rave reviews on the Midnight Recovery Serum and I agree, it is amaaaaazing. But this little gem doesn’t get spoken about that much and think it’s the bee’s knee’s! If you have dehydrated skin, this is product will be such a win in your skincare regime. It does exactly what it’s name says plus more – it perks up dull and tired looking skin (we could all do with that at this time of the year, am I right?) as well as reduce age related dehydrated. Its liquid to serum technology makes it a dream to apply and it feels as light as a feather under my moisturiser.
Ponds Multi Action Facial Foam + Scrub: Cheap as chips and works like a bomb! I personally feel that the salicylic acid makes all the difference to this cleanser as it gives a very mild exfoliation which really brightens dull skin and gives rough skin a new, smooth surface. The clay element helps to remove impurities from the pores but also mattify. When battling breakouts on my chest and upper back. I slather this cleanser on and leave it as a mask for a few minutes before rinsing it off. When I use it as a facial cleanser, it doesn’t dry my skin out (although I definitely needed to apply a moisturiser afterwards) and really takes control of those hormonal breakouts. I did a more in depth review here.
Kiehls Super Multi-Corrective Cream SPF 30: Broad spectrum SPF? Tick! Paraban free? Tick! Safe for sensitive skin? Tick! This moisturiser was a happy little discovery and it has become a fast favourite. If you are fighting the age dragon (it’s never too early to start!) this moisturiser lifts, smoothes and sculpts the skin. If your skin is feeling a bit rough or course, the re-texturising property is right up your ally. I use this product morning and night, it feels so comforting on my skin but never too heavy or greasy.
I’m going to be putting up the body and hair care installment next – hopefully on Friday if I don’t become too sucked in by all the Christmas preparation and shopping – we have both sides of the family coming to stay with us eeeeek! I hope you enjoyed this post, and please let me know in the comments if you had any stand out skincare products this year.
