Aria and I definitely share a love for bathing; she enjoys splashing around and playing with her bath toys, while for me it’s a time to relax and unwind. Recently we have been trying out the new Aveeno range and, spoiler alert, we love it!
Towards the end of last year, Aveeno launched in South Africa with some of their most popular products for both adults and kiddies. If you aren’t too familiar with the brand, let me give you a little bit of a history.
Two American brothers, Albert and Sidney Musher founded Aveeno in 1945. They had always been curious about how substances worked together and both believed that centuries-old remedies really did have an incredible effect on human wellness. They started to experiment with raw cereal and this led them to the discovery of a finely milled colloidal oatmeal bath. This proved to be highly effective in treating skin that was prone to eczema and is in fact still used to this day at the Mayo Clinic in America.
Fast forward over 100 years, and Aveeno is still one of the worlds most popular brands to use when it comes to sensitive and eczema prone skin, largely due to the fact that they only use incredible effective ingredients from nature. There is now a large variety of products to choose from under the Aveeno umbrella and finally, South African’s can get their hands on a few of these!
I’ve only gotten around to testing out a few of the products so far, and today I am going to chat about three of them, two for your kiddo and one for you. If you’re keen to land your hands on some Aveeno product, make sure to read all the way to the end of this post.
Baby Barrier Cream: Although Aria has been out of nappies during the day for almost a month now, she still wears one at night. I am just not ready to wake up in the middle of the night to change wet sheets…yet. We aren’t super religious about bum cream but every now and then when she is teething Aria gets a bit of a nappy rash and so then we layer it on! We have used the Baby Barrier Cream three times now and it did a really good job at not only calming the area, but also reducing the rash really quickly, both thanks to the colloidal oatmeal. I also love that it comes in a tube, so much less mess and great for the nappy bag or travelling!
Baby Hair and Body Wash: I love a two in one when it comes to kids, it’s just so much easier so I was pretty chuffed to see that this was both a body wash and shampoo in one bottle. Like all of their products the hair and body wash also has colloidal oatmeal in it, Aveeno states that this makes the product perfect for newborn as well as sensitive skin. I’m always super cautious when it comes to sensitivity so I would still suggest that you do a little patch test on the inside of your child’s elbow. We didn’t have any issues with or reactions with Aria’s skin, and even though this product doesn’t foam up, I still found that it was really effective. Worth a try!
Dermexa Emollient Cream: Ah, something for mama! I have super dry skin and the fact that I am not very good at remembering to apply body moisturiser doesn’t really help the situation. I’ve been using the Dermexa Emollient Cream for about a week now and I gotta say, I’m pretty impressed! My skin feels a lot more hydrated and super soft to the touch. Something else that I noticed is that if I apply this to my legs after I have shaved, I don’t experience a burning or stinging sensation, which is usually the case. This makes me pretty confident that someone who suffers from sensitivity or eczema could use this product, but like I mentioned earlier, make sure to do a patch test if you’re nervous, just in case.
There are so many more products that I want to test from Aveeno. At the moment I’m making my way through the Body Yogurt and so far I’m really enjoying it! After that I definitely want to try out a body wash I think. Want to try out some Aveeno products for yourself? I’m giving away two Dermexa and Baby hampers, all you have to do is enter via the Rafflecopter widget below.
