40 questions beauty tag

As a blogger, I love blogs, I think that’s a fairly obvious statement. Anyway, last week while I was catching up on some reading (in other words, I was procrastinating), I came across this tag on three blogs that I frequent: For The Beauty Of It, Kiss Blush And Tell as well as Suzy Q-Tip. I loved reading these bloggers answers and thought I would give the tag a go for myself.

How many times do you wash your face daily?

Twice a day, morning and night. Although if I’m really honest, the morning wash gets skipped if I’m running late. If that’s the case, I use a cleansing wipe.

What skin type do you have?

I wish I could answer this with just one word! Generally I have a dehydrated skin, but with all the hormonal changes happening to my poor body at the moment, it’s become a lot more combination which is incredibly frustrating as I’m not used to dealing with the oily patches.

What is your current facial wash?

Because I get bored quite easily, I chop and change quite a bit. Currently, some of my favourites are Dermalogica Dermal Clay Cleanser for its fresh menthol feeling, Ponds Multi Action Facial Foam + Scrub which is great for an everyday deep cleanse and lastly, the  Dr Gobac Wash is great as an efficient every day cleanser.

Do you exfoliate?

100% yes – my skin would die without it.

What brand do you use?

At the moment I’m really enjoying enzymatic exfoliators, specifically the Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant – I forgot how amazing it is! If I’m feeling a bit lazy, I mix some of my granular exfoliator (I really like the mens one from Dermalogica) into my cleanser for a bit of a 2-in-1 effect. I try to give my skin a good exfoliation twice a week to keep the dehydration and flakey-ness at bay.

What moisturiser do you use?

For the past month I’ve been using the Dirty Works 8-in-1 Miracle Cream but this morning I used the Elemis Daily Redness Solution and oh my word, I am in love! It smells like a rose garden (in a non-sickly sweet, vom inducing way). I get a slight whiff of it every now and then throughout the day, absolute bliss!

Do you have freckles?

Do you use an eye cream?

Yes, I am a bit obsessed! I love my Thalgo Collagen Eye Roll On, it was really life changing for me in terms of helping to eliminate dark circles and fine lines.

Do you or did you have acne prone skin?

I definitely did as a teen. As an adult, my skin is more prone to congestion, especially along the jawline, and more recently on my neck. I find that my skin tends to flare up badly when I am really stressed, hence its current state. Seriously, these hormones need to calm down now!

Cleansing tip?

Just do it! I know that there were many nights that I got home in a complete wine daze and just fell on my bed and slept with my make up on. Even worse, I would just apply my make up over that disgusting old make up the next day! How gross? Buy some cleansing wipes and force yourself to take off the layers of foundation that you slapped on, no matter how late or blurry your eye sight is.

What foundation do you use?

I have just finished my MAC Studio Sculpt and am on the hunt for the next best thing… Suggestions please!

How about concealer?

Um…no. But I have made a mental note to try out the LA Girl one that everyone has been raving about.

Do you know your undertone colour?

What do you think of fake eyelashes?

Love them if they are applied by a professional. I love lash extensions as well, but I rub my eyes so much, that by the end of week one, they look all wonky and half of them have fallen off.

Did you know that you are supposed to change your mascara every 3 months?

Yip. I go through a tube a month (seriously, I know) so I have no problem sticking to that!

What brand of mascara do you use?

I’ve just finished off an amazing one from Catrice and am keen to try the Gosh Amazing Length & Build or the Loreal Miss Manga Punky.

Make up item that you can’t seem to get enough of?

Mascara – my eyelashes are so blonde, I look terrible without.

Do you have a MAC Pro-card?

No, but apparently I qualify for one.

What make-up tools do you use in make-up application?

I hardly ever used any brushes. Then Cassidy from The Glam Green Girl did a review on Real Techniques brushes and I bought the set on a whim. I will never, ever use my fingers for applying foundation again! Besides that set, I have a brow brush to tame the crazy that are my eyebrows but that’s about it. I am really keen to try the Beauty Blender, I hear it’s unreal!

What are your favourite brushes?

Real Techniques, no hesitation there.

Do you use primer for the eyes?

For the face?

Yes. I am currently using the Dermalogica Redness Relief Primer, it’s the one with the green tint to combat redness. I have to say, I prefer their Age Smart one.

What is your favourite eye shadow shade?

I’m not an eye shadow fundie and don’t know too much about the different brands, but I’m all about the browns and taupe shades. As long as its pigmented and doesn’t disappear after an hour, then I’m happy.

Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?

Liquid without a doubt. Pencil seems to land on my cheek bones 2 hours into the day.

What do you think of pigment eyeshadows?

Can’t say I’ve tried them.

Do you use mineral make-up?

Not consciously, no.

What is your favourite lipstick?

At the moment it’s MAC Dreaminess. It’s a soft, candyfloss pink. But for winter I am itching to get Diva from MAC – so dark and sumptuous!

How about lipgloss?

Not a fan. So much stickiness and when the wind blows it’s just a situation.

What is your favourite blush to use?

I’m more of a bronzer girl but I recently discovered the Essence Autumn Blush, and I quite like it for a subtle rosy glow.

Where do you buy your make-up online?

I prefer going in store but I do like to buy off Spree every now and then.

Do you like drugstore make-up?

Your favourite in SA?

Love LA Girl and Catrice at the moment.

Did you ever consider taking make-up classes?

When I was studying, make-up was part of our course. I can’t say it was my favourite. I’m more into skin than make-up.

Are you clumsy in putting on make-up?

I’ve definitely improved…although I still can’t do the perfect winged liner without going through 20 earbuds.

Name a make-up crime that you hate?

Foundation that isn’t blended properly, especially on the neck. It bugs me so much – it reminds me of a dirty bath.

Worst general beauty crime?

Chipped nails definitely, it just looks so untidy.

Do you like colourful shades of make-up (lipstick, eyeshadow) or neurtral ones?

I definitely gravitate more towards the natural look when it comes to the eyes. I usually just use mascara and some liquid liner. But I love different colour lipsticks and have finally started to pluck up the courage to wear them every now and then.

Which celebrity always has great make-up?

Life is too short to keep my love for Taylor Swift a secret. She pulls off a mean red lip! I also really admire how Lauren Conrad keeps her make up looking chic but natural…she has to be the queen of the winged liner right?

If you could leave the house using just ONE make-up item, what would you use?

Definitely mascara.

Could you ever leave the house without any make –up on?

I probably shouldn’t but I do, if I’m just running out to buy milk or something.

Do you think you look good even without any make-up on?

I mean, I don’t look like Shrek but for everyone else’s sake, I should probably throw a little something on to make me look more appealing.

In your opinion, what is the BEST make-up line?

At the moment, I would say Catrice. The few products that I have purchased from them have really blown my mind when it comes to quality for the price that you pay. But I am still a complete sucker for Chanel, everything that they do is so perfect. When I walk past that counter, I just want to scoop everything into my bag and run.

What do you think of make-up in general?

It’s fun, it boosts your mood and confidence, there’s something for everyone. Whats not to love?

This was such a fun tag to do! If you decide you want to take part as well, don’t forget to tag me so that I can read all of your answers (and probably learn a thing or two!).
